REAL MADRID CLUB DE FÚTBOL / LA HISTORIA INTERMINABLE

Nada me parece más apropiado para titular esta breve entrada que el nombre del genial libro (DIE UNENDLICHE GESCHICHTE) que el añorado escritor alemán MICHAEL ENDE publicó en 1979. Y nada mejor para terminarla que una foto triunfal de su brillante compatriota TONI KROOS, que desde ayer ya es historia (y qué historia) del club, tras haber terminado su último partido de blanco de la mejor manera posible.

No importa que (por suerte) los aficionados del REAL MADRID hayamos vivido muchos días como el de ayer. Uno no se acostumbra a unos nervios que empiezan nada más bajar de la cama. Por suerte, esta institución está más que acostumbrada a ellos. Quince títulos en dieciocho finales de una competición cuyo nombre siempre estará unido al del club así lo atestiguan.

Las estadísticas son abrumadoras y no tiene mucho sentido traerlas aquí. Sólo decir que el Real Madrid tiene más del doble de títulos que su inmediato perseguidor en el palmarés. Y que a Don PACO GENTO se le unen de golpe cuatro futbolistas más con hasta seis títulos de la COPA DE EUROPA en su palmarés: CARVAJAL (el héroe de la noche), NACHO, MODRIC y el propio Kroos (que traía un título de sus años en Múnich). Cada uno de los cinco tiene más títulos de esta competición que cualquier equipo que haya participado en ella, quitando a A.C. MILÁN (7), F.C. BAYERN (6) y LIVERPOOL F.C. (6), que siguen muy de lejos al Madrid en dicho palmarés.

THE NEVERENDING STORY

Nothing better to name this short entry after than the title of the wonderul novel (DIE UNENDLICHE GESCHICHTE) which the dearly missed german writer MICHAEL ENDE published in 1979. And no better way to finish it than a triumphant photo of his brilliant countryman TONI KROOS, who, since yesterday, already belongs to the club's history (and what a history), after having played his last game for Real Madrid, finishing it on the highest of notes.

It does not matter that us REAL MADRID fans have experienced many days like yesterday. You never get used to those nerves which begin right after jumping out of bed. Fortunately, this club is more than used to them. Fifteen titles out of eighteen finals are good proof of it.

The stats are overwhelming and there is no point in bringing them here. But the fact that Real Madrid more than doubles the number of titles that its nearest rival has speaks volumes about this club's dominance in all Europe. Ín addition, Mr. PACO GENTO is suddenly joined by four more players who have won the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE as many as six times: CARVAJAL (the hero of the day), NACHO, MODRIC and Kroos himself (who brought one title from his Munich years). Each of those five accumulates more titles in this competition than any other club which has contested it, save for A.C. MILÁN (7), F.C. BAYERN (6) and LIVERPOOL F.C. (6), which follow Real Madrid from afar in the record book.
