GENE HACKMAN

GENE HACKMAN, el legendario actor estadounidense, ha fallecido.

La triste noticia ha trascendido el veintisiete de Febrero (2025), aunque parece que el suceso tuvo lugar, como poco, un par de días antes de esa fecha, según se ha informado. No se conocen aún las causas del fallecimiento y aunque Gene era muy mayor (cumplió noventaicinco años el mes pasado), el asunto resulta un tanto extraño, ya que junto al actor han sido encontrados su mujer actual (la pianista BETSY ARAKAWA) y uno de los perros de la familia.

Sea como sea, qué menos que rendir aquí un pequeño homenaje a uno de los más grandes actores de todos los tiempos.

A pesar de ser un intérprete tardío (su primer crédito actoral le llegó ya en la treintena) y de haberse retirado hace más de veinte años (su último papel como actor es de 2004, aunque ha hecho alguna narración posterior), al genial y oscarizado intérprete le dio tiempo a completar una carrera más que brillante (y muy ocupada sobre todo entre los años 1970 y 2000), en la que aparecen algunos títulos legendarios ligados a otros actores y directores que no lo son menos.

Destacan en su filmografía sus colaboraciones con los míticos directores WILLIAM FRIEDKIN, FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA, CLINT EASTWOOD, WOODY ALLEN, MEL BROOKS, ALAN PARKER, WARREN BEATTY, RICHARD DONNER o SYDNEY POLLACK, en cintas como THE FRENCH CONNECTION (CONTRA EL IMPERIO DE LA DROGA, 1971), THE CONVERSATION (LA CONVERSACIÓN, 1974), UNFORGIVEN (SIN PERDON, 1992), ANOTHER WOMAN (OTRA MUJER, 1988), YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (EL JOVENCITO FRANKENSTEIN, 1974), MISSISSIPPI BURNING (ARDE MISSISSIPPI, 1988), REDS (ROJOS, 1981), SUPERMAN (1978) o THE FIRM (LA TAPADERA, 1993), respectivamente, además de otro montón de trabajos meritorios, con gente como ARTHUR PENN, MIKE NICHOLS, TONY SCOTT, SAM RAIMI y muchos más.

Además, estuvo nominado hasta cinco veces a los premios de la Academia, obteniendo dos de ellos, como actor principal en Contra El Imperio De La Droga y como secundario en Sin Perdón. A estos galardones se unen tres premios Bafta, cinco Globos De Oro y un montón de distinciones más.

GENE HACKMAN, legendary american actor, has passed.

The sad news have become known on the 27th of February, 2025, although it seems like the decease took place at least a couple of days before said date, according to the informations. The causes are not known yet and although Gene was very old (he turned ninety five in January), the whole thing feels odd, given that, together with the actor, his wife (pianist BETSY ARAKAWA) and one of the family's dog have been found dead too.

Be it as it may, paying a little tribute to one of all time's greatest performers is the least I can do.

Despite having been late to the acting party (he landed his first role already in his thirties) and having retired from it more than twenty years ago (his last appearance as an actor took place in 2004, although he's done some bits as a narrator afterwards), the great and accomplished actor had enough time to mount an impressive career (and a very busy one from 1970 to 2000), in which some essential films, linked to no less important actors and filmmakers, can be found.

Remarkable in his filmography are his collaborations with legendary directors such as WILLIAM FRIEDKIN, FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA, CLINT EASTWOOD, WOODY ALLEN, MEL BROOKS, ALAN PARKER, WARREN BEATTY, RICHARD DONNER or SYDNEY POLLACK, in films like THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971), THE CONVERSATION (1974), UNFORGIVEN (1992), ANOTHER WOMAN (1988), YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974), MISSISSIPPI BURNING (1988), REDS (1981), SUPERMAN (1978) or THE FIRM (1993), respectively, besides tons of other praiseworthy works with people like ARTHUR PENN, MIKE NICHOLS, TONY SCOTT, SAM RAIMI and many more.

He was also nominated up to five times to the Academy Awards, winning two of them, as lead actor for The French Connection and an actor in a supporting role for Unforgiven. There were many more awards and accolades, with three Bafta awards and five Golden Globes standing out among them.
